What You'll Get:
When you purchase this digital guidebook, you'll receive 4 detailed PDFs that give you everything you need to plan and execute an unforgettable hut-to-hut trek on the Alta Via 1:
The Complete AV1 Guidebook (15 pages) Your step-by-step companion for a 6 day, 5 night trek on the Alta Via 1, including:
- The full day-by-day route we hiked with mileage, elevation profiles, and optional side trips (I meticulously created our routes on Komoot — you'll receive all links)
- Exact rifugios we stayed in, with detailed notes on what to expect at each hut (squatty potties vs. real toilets, which provide packed lunches, etc.)
- Transport logistics & the name of our transport company (who transported us from Cortina to Lago di Braies, held our baggage while we trekked, and picked us up at the end)
- Small but important details (like sauna bookings at Lagazuoi & via ferrata equipment delivery to Rifugio Averau) that made the trip unforgettable
- Pre-trek and post-trek recommendations, including our 3-day acclimation plan in Cortina and where we celebrated afterwards
I want this to feel like a best friend sat down to help you plan your hike!
Training Plan & Habit Tracker (2 pages) A simple, structured 5-month training program targeting the 4 key areas you need for the Alta Via 1: stamina, strength, stability, and mobility. I've designed this based on what actually prepared my group for steep climbs, rocky terrain, and consecutive days of hiking with a pack. The habit tracker helps you stay accountable as you build toward your own trip!
Packing Checklist (1 page) Everything you need to bring, organized by category: hiking gear, clothes, toiletries, and miscellaneous items. I've included notes on what's actually required at the huts (like hut shoes and sleeping bag liners) and what I personally brought that made the difference. No overpacking, no forgetting essentials.
Rifugio Booking Details Spreadsheet (1 page) This is pure gold for the booking phase. I've compiled contact information, pricing, bed counts, booking windows, and direct links for every rifugio along the route. Huts book up FAST (some open reservations in September, others in January, others in April), and this spreadsheet gives you the exact info you need to secure your spots. I've done the research so you don't have to hunt down 8+ different hut websites.
All files are immediately downloadable PDFs you can reference on your phone or print out.
Please note: This guidebook is based on my personal experience leading a group of 16 on the Alta Via 1. We did NOT hike the entire Alta Via 1 (which is 75 miles), and opted to hike just 40 miles (6 days, 5 nights) instead. I do link you to resources in this guidebook if you would like to plan a longer, shorter, or slightly different trip to the one I planned.
